Steve James is the Deputy Director of the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE). He administers the Property/Casualty Group Insurance Pool, The Workers’ Compensation Group Self-Insurance Fund and the Pooled OPEB Investment Trust for 20 of the 24 school districts in Maryland. He also oversees the development of business partnerships between MABE, businesses and the school districts.Steve joined MABE in 1996 as the Claims Unit Manager and was named the Deputy Director in 2003. He has been active promoting Intergovernmental Pooling, having been elected to serve for two terms on the Association of Governmental Risk Pools (AGRiP) Board of Directors. He and his wife Mary live in Towson Maryland with their three Labrador retrievers.
